  • Set up a table at the entrance of your reception venue with framed photos of you and close family. Include childhood snaps, close friends and even old wedding photos of your parents and grandparents.
  • Go for a wedding invite that suits your wedding theme and personality. Pick special postage stamps to match, these come in various designs and colours. Include some rose petals in each invite to make it special or spray with your favourite scent.
  • Use a single rose head with a name card attached for a simple but stunning place setting. Alternatively, sticking a small name flag into continental chocolates will make for a delicious way to seat guests. For a wedding with a more modern theme, try spraying a piece of fruit silver and attaching a name card.
  • As an alternative to flowers, lemons rolled in sugar and placed in a simple glass bowl will provide a colourful centrepiece for each table.
  • Provide guests with lots of colour card to write their messages as a memento of your special day and place in a large glass bowl during the evening.
  • Using storm or tea lights at each table will give you a much softer option to overhead lighting and create an intimate atmosphere.
  • Rather than using paper confetti, offer guests rose petals to throw on the happy couple.
  • Decorate the chairs at the reception with flowers to brighten them and make them stand out.
  • To entertain children at the wedding, provide them with fun alternatives such as bright non-alcoholic cocktails and colourful party food. Hire a clown, magician or bouncy castle to keep them entertained and out of trouble.
  • Use ice sculptures and elaborate fruit arrangements to decorate your reception. These will definitely get your guests talking.
  • As gifts to give your guests, put together a customised collection of songs from your wedding on a CD along with photos.
  • Provide each table with a disposable camera that you can collect at the end of the evening. These will provide you with more fun and natural photos of your guests.
  • Ask a close friend or family member to read a poem or passage at the start of the reception. Alternatively get your cousins and friends to perform a specially rehearsed dance.
  • Ask guests to write their predications for the newly weds (number of kids, careers, weight in 5 years) and then seal them in a box to be opened on your fifth wedding anniversary.
  • Present both mothers of the bride and groom with flowers at the end of the evening to thank them for all their hard work in making your day special.
